Pitching Dominates In Baseball's Doubleheader Sweep Of Shepherd

FLORENCE, S.C. – UNC Pembroke pitchers racked up 21 strikeouts and allowed just eight hits across 16 innings in a twinbill sweep of Shepherd by scores of 4-2 and 1-0 in non-conference action Friday evening at Francis Marion's Cormell Field.

In Game 1, the Braves got 4 2/3 hitless and scoreless innings from the bullpen to take the 4-2 win, while Spencer Ledford tallied a career-high 12 strikeouts in five scoreless innings in Game 2 as the Black & Gold scratched late for a 1-0 win.

Ramses Cordova paced the Braves offensively in the series opener, going 2-4 with an RBI, while Zane Brockman's RBI walk in the sixth inning of Game 2 provided the only run in the nightcap.

The Braves (6-2) improved to 45-16 in the all-time series with the Rams (0-5), and have now won the last six meetings between the two squads.

UNCP will be back in action Saturday as they look for their second-consecutive weekend sweep. First pitch is set for 12:30 p.m.
