Baseball Rallies Late, Sweeps Series Against Shepherd

FLORENCE, S.C. – UNC Pembroke found themselves facing a 2-1 deficit heading into the home half of the seventh, but rallied for a four-spot before tacking on an insurance run in the eighth on the way to a 6-2 win and series sweep over Shepherd on Saturday afternoon at Francis Marion's Cormell Field.

The Braves scored all four seventh-inning runs without a ball leaving the infield, taking advantage of three walks and a hit by pitch by the Rams.

Jonathon Jacobs turned in a second-straight quality start, allowing just two earned runs over six innings, while Landon Lucas earned the win with three scoreless innings in relief.

Blake Hinson led the way offensively with a 2-3 day, adding two RBI and two stolen bases.

The Braves (7-2) improved to 46-16 in the all-time series with the Rams (0-6).

UNCP will be back in action Tuesday, February 18 as they host Mercy for a non-conference matchup. Due to continued construction at Sammy Cox Field, the contest will take place at The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
