Baseball Cruises Past Mercy

MYRTLE BEACH – UNC Pembroke pounded out 16 hits and used 12 Mercy walks en route to a 19-1 win over the Mavericks in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at Ripken Park.

The Braves put up crooked numbers in four different innings, as every starter had at least one hit, while six different pitchers combined to allow just seven hits while racking up ten strikeouts.

Harrison Holbrook picked up his first collegiate win in his first career appearance, going two scoreless while striking out two.

Isaias Villarreal paced the offense, turning in a 4-4 day with five RBI, including a grand slam as part of a nine-run sixth inning.

The Braves (8-2) improved to 2-1 in the all-time series with the Mavericks (2-3).

UNCP will be back in action Friday as they head to Tigerville, S.C. to take on North Greenville for a Conference Carolinas series. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
