Anderson Sweeps Softball In Non-Conference Doubleheader

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson registered six doubles and a pair of home runs over two games to help fuel a non-conference sweep over the UNC Pembroke softball team on Monday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex. 
 
The Trojans tallied seven hits and scored multiple runs over two innings to defeat the Braves 5-0 in the opening game of the doubleheader. UNCP put up three runs in the third inning to take a 5-2 lead, but a five run fourth inning for AU helped the hosts to a 9-7 victory to complete the sweep. 
 
The Braves (3-10) have now lost their last eight games and fall to 4-6 all-time against Anderson. The Trojans (7-5) have now won their last four games and are now 5-5 when playing at home.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 3 Paige Vickery drew a walk and moved to second on a single from Maddie Carpenter. Maggie Nauck lit up the scoreboard with a three-run blast to give Anderson an early lead.
BOT 4 Anderson put runners on first and second after a walk from Chaney Crosby and a single from Shelby Brandt and would add a run on an RBI single from Jenna Davis. The Trojans loaded the bases and plated another run on a fielder's choice. 
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
TOP 1 Alex Serbio started the game with a leadoff single up the middle and moved to second on a throwing error. A double from Cirstin Calloway scored Serbio, as Calloway would score on an RBI from Kaite Hogue. 
BOT 1 Shelby Brandt and Jenna Davis both drew walks and would end on second and third after a wild pitch and a stolen base. An ill-timed wild pitch moved the runners 60-feet and scored Brandt. Paige Vickery drew a walk to put runners on the corners, but a single through the left side from Maggie Nauck plated Davis to tie the score at 2-2. 
TOP 3 Cirstin Calloway sent one out of the park for a solo homer to start the inning. Sam Allred singled to center field and would score on a single from Katie Hogue. Marijo Wilkes found the outfield grass for an RBI double to put UNCP out in front 5-3. 
BOT 4 Chloe Maness started the inning with a leadoff double and scored on a double down the left field line from Chaney Crosby. Anderson put runners on the corners as Jenna Davis beat out an infield single, but a single through the left side from Carson Hobbs scored Crosby. Paige Vickery sent one over the center field fence for a three-run homer to give Anderson an 8-7 lead.
