AIKEN, S.C. – USC Aiken scored five runs across two innings while logging nine hits to defeat the UNC Pembroke softball team 5-1 in the opening game of a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at J.H. Satcher Field.
 
Charlotte Rose threw seven innings while allowing just one run to help fuel a 6-1 victory over the Pacers to help secure a split of the doubleheader. UNCP capitalized on three USCA errors and scored multiple runs in two innings. 
 
The Braves (4-11) snapped a nine-game skid and picked up their first road win of the season. The Pacers (11-9) have now split their last two doubleheaders and are 5-5 when playing at home this season.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 3	USC Aiken loaded the bases with three singles, but a double to the center field gap from Kate Newberry to bring home a pair of runs. A deep sacrifice fly from Mallory Shaver plated a run to give the Pacers a 5-0 lead.
TOP 6	Alona Hanna lit up the scoreboard with a solo home run over the left field fence.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
TOP 1	UNC Pembroke put runners on first and second after Cirstin Calloway reached on a passed ball and Katie Hogue beat out an infield single. An ill-time fielding error scored Calloway followed by an RBI single up the middle from Samantha Allred to score Hogue.
BOT 3	Autumn Fisher drew a six-pitch walk and then stole second. A single up the middle from Kate Newberry scored Fisher.
TOP 5	The Braves loaded the bases after singles from Alex Serbio, Alona Hanna, and Katie Hogue. Katelynn Hunt drove in Serbio followed by a two-run RBI double to right field from Samantha Allred.

The Braves will be back in action on Wednesday when when they welcome USC Beaufort to town for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch of the twinbill is set for 2 p.m. at Purnell Swett High School.
