Softball Sweeps Twinbill Against USC Beaufort

MAXTON – UNC Pembroke scored 27 runs on 20 hits across a doubleheader sweep of USC Beaufort, taking both games via run-rule by scores of 14-6 and 13-5 in non-conference doubleheader action Wednesday at Purnell Swett High School.

Chloe Locklear led the way offensively in Game 1, with two home runs as part of a 3-4, four-RBI game. Kaitlynn Hunt also homered and added three RBI, while Katie Hogue tallied two doubles and four RBI.
 
Alona Hanna provided the fireworks in Game 2 with a grand slam to put the Braves out to an early 5-0 lead.

The Braves (6-11) have now won three in a row and snapped USC Beaufort's (15-5) eight-game winning streak in the process.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 4 Kaitlynn Hunt put the Braves on the board first with a solo blast to left. Katie Hogue was hit by a pitch to extend the inning, before advancing to third on Chloe Locklear's single. Samantha Allred capped off the inning with a three-run homer to left center to make it 4-0. 
TOP 5 USC Beaufort's Saria Simmons got the Sand Sharks on the board with an RBI single, before Chloe Turner's bases-clearing double tied the game at 4-4. Taelor Chang followed with a two-run blast to center field to give the guests a 6-4 lead.
BOT 5 Alex Serbio and Hunt each singled, and would both come around to score on Katie Hogue's two-run double to tie the score, before Locklear went big fly to left field to give the Braves an 8-6 lead.
BOT 6 Kylie Johnson reached on an error and moved to third on Kaitlyn King's double, while Hunt would score them both with a two-run single to center. Hogue drove in two more with a double, while Locklear smacked her second two-run homer of the game to give the Braves a 14-6 run-rule victory.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 2 Kylie Johnson and Kaitlyn King each worked two-out walks, while Alex Serbio reached on an error to score Johnson. After a Kaitlynn Hunt walk, Alona Hanna went deep to left for a grand slam to give the Braves a 5-0 lead. 
BOT 4 Hunt worked a leadoff walk and moved to second on Hanna's single. Chloe Locklear's RBI single scored Hanna, while Samantha Allred drove in a pair to make it 9-3. Three more runs would come home on a Sand Shark error to stretch the lead to 12-3, before Tiara Stueck drove in UNCP's final run with an RBI single.
