CARY – Sofia Pereira and Britta Schwengle recorded NCAA provisional times in the 1000-yard Freestyle to help position the UNC Pembroke in first place after the opening day of the Conference Carolinas Championship on Wednesday. 

The Braves lead Emmanuel 115-93 after the first three events.

Pereira took top honors in the 1000-yard Freestyle with a time of 10:22.83 to break her own Conference Carolinas Championship Meet record. Schwengle placed second in the event with a time of 10:24.06. 

the 200-yard Medley Relay team of Katie Raleigh, Ianna Gomez Veloz, Fabiana Pesce, and Naekeisha Louis claimed runner-up honors while also breaking the school record in the event, while the 800-yard Freestyle Relay team of Fabiana Pesce, Sofia Pereira, Fatima Portillo, and Britta Schwengle also took second place in the event. 

The top three finishes in each event are first, second, and third team all-conference. 

The Braves will be back in action on Friday with the prelims beginning at 10 a.m. inside the Triangle Aquatics Center.
