Baseball Drops Doubleheader, Swept By No.1 North Greenville

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – UNC Pembroke left the tying run at third base in a 4-3 loss in Game 2 of the series, and saw an early 6-0 lead erased on the way to a 16-7 loss in the series finale as No.1-ranked North Greenville completed the sweep in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon at Dillard Park.

The Braves momentarily tied the score at 4-4 in the opener, before the umpires convened and overturned Isaias Villarreal's game-tying infield single. The Black & Gold jumped out to a 6-0 lead in Game 3 before North Greenville recorded an out, but the hosts rallied back to tie the game in the bottom of the second and take the lead in fifth.

Jake Bradley, Landon Lucas, and Jacob Smith each had two hits in Game 2, while Lucas was 2-4 with a grand slam in the finale.

The Braves (8-5, 0-3 CC) fell to 3-12 in the all-time series with the Trailblazers (14-1, 5-1 CC).

UNCP will be back in action Tuesday, February 25 as they host Charleston (W.Va.) for a non-conference doubleheader. Due to ongoing renovations at Sammy Cox Field, the twinbill will be held at Carolina Bank Field in Florence, S.C. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
