Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Charleston

FLORENCE, S.C. – UNC Pembroke registered 14 hits on the way to a 13-2 win in Game 1, and then came from behind and rode another quality outing from Seth Willis to take the twinbill sweep with a 3-2 win in Game 2.

Landon Lucas homered for the second-straight game to lead the way offensively in the first game, turning in a 3-5 day with four RBI. Ramses Cordova had the big hit in Game 2, with a two-run game-tying single in the fourth inning.

Playing Charleston for the first time in program history, the Braves (10-5, 0-3 CC) moved to 2-0 in the all-time series with the Golden Eagles (1-8, 0-0 MEC). 

UNCP will be back in action Friday, February 28 as they host King for a Conference Carolinas series. Due to ongoing renovations at Sammy Cox Field, the series will be held at Carolina Bank Field in Florence, S.C. First pitch Friday is set for 3 p.m.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 1 Luis Ramirez was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and moved to third on Isaias Villarreal's single. Blake Hinson put the Braves on the board first with an RBI groundout before Villarreal scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.
BOT 3 Zane Brockman reached via a single, Ramses Cordova walked, and Ramirez reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Villarreal's two-run double down the left-field line made it 4-0.
TOP 4 Jake Bradley led off with a double and moved to third on a Landon Lucas single. Brockman scored Bradley with a successful safety squeeze, while Ramirez brought home Lucas with an RBI double to stretch the lead to 6-0.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
TOP 2 Charleston's Wilfredo Mendez worked a leadoff walk, stole second, and came around to score on Trent Dosenbach's RBI single. After Dosenbach stole second, Lane Weismiller would bring him home with a run-scoring single to give the Golden Eagles a quick 2-0 lead.
BOT 4 Hinson led off the frame with an infield single, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After Hayden Davis and Brockman each worked walks, Cordova came through a game-tying two-RBI single. 
BOT 6 Bradley reached via leadoff walk and moved to second on a failed pickoff attempt. Brockman would walk and Cordova was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Ashton Donathan, who put the Braves ahead 3-2 with a sacrifice fly.
