Baseball Walks Off King To Take Game 1

FLORENCE, S.C. – UNC Pembroke tallied 11 hits, including a walk-off single from Landon Lucas to take a 6-5 victory over King in Game 1 of the series in Conference Carolinas action Friday evening at CarolinaBank Field.

Isaias Villarreal collected his sixth multi-hit game of the season on a 3-5 day at the plate, while Lucas drove in a pair of runs including his walk-off winner.

Kasen McCawley provided two scoreless innings out of the bullpen before Seth Willis came on to get the final out of the ninth to earn his third win of the season.

The Braves (11-5, 1-3 CC) improved to 10-1 in the all-time series with the Tornado (4-12, 0-4 CC). 

UNCP will be back in action Saturday as the two squads wrap up the series with a doubleheader. First pitch is set for noon.

KEY INNINGS
TOP 1 King's Michael Starrs worked a two-out walk and jogged home on Joey Armunategui's two-run blast to left to give the Tornado a quick 2-0 lead.
BOT 1 The Braves quickly cut the lead in half as Luis Ramirez singled, stole second, and eventually came home on Isaias Villarreal's RBI groundout.
BOT 3 After a Ramses Cordova RBI single tied the score in the second inning, Blake Hinson singled to lead off the third and then stole second. Villarreal reached on a bunt single, while Jake Bradley scored Hinson to give the Braves a 3-2 lead. Will Hood's RBI single up the middle scored Villarreal to stretch the lead to 4-2, before Landon Lucas drove in Hood to make it 5-2.
TOP 5 The Tornado cut into the deficit with a two-run blast from Josh Nuno to make it 5-4.
TOP 7 King tied the game at 5-5 on Armunategui's RBI single.
BOT 9 Bradley singled to lead off the frame and moved to second on Hood's sac bunt. Hayden Davis was intentionally walked, setting the stage for Lucas to bring home Bradley for the game-winner.
