Women’s Basketball Knocks Off North Greenville On Senior Day

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke women's basketball team shot 47.6 percent from the field and never trailed by more than a point on the way to a 60-52 senior day victory over North Greenville on Saturday afternoon at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. 
 
The Braves (20-7, 14-5 CC) improve to 5-0 against North Greenville and have now won 20 or more games in the last three seasons. The Trailblazers (6-19, 6-13 CC) have now lost six out of their last seven contests and fall to 3-9 when playing on the road. 




 
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
North Greenville took what would be its largest lead of the contest, 7-6, with a three from the top of the key from Ja'mari Fredrick four minutes into the action. UNC Pembroke went on an 8-0 run capped off with a layup from Zaria Clark to hold a 14-7 advantage with 1:07 left in the quarter, as the Braves held a 16-11 lead after the opening period. 
2ND QUARTER
A triple from Anastasia Sinclair and a fast break layup from Hannah Russell put UNCP out in front 21-14 with 5:31 on the clock, but a 7-0 run from NGU tied the score at 21 with just under four minutes left in the half. The Braves closed out the half on a 9-0 run highlighted by a pair of threes from Natalie Evington and a bucket from Hannah Russell to send the teams to the locker room with UNC Pembroke leading 30-21. 
3RD QUARTER
Hannah Russell padded the UNC Pembroke lead, 32-21, to start the quarter, but North Greenville scored the next five points to cut its deficit back to 32-26 with six minutes remaining in the period. Anastasia Sinclair canned a 3-pointer to send the Braves on a 10-2 surge capped off with a triple from Natalie Evington to put the hosts out in front 42-28 with 2:28 on the clock. UNCP outscored NGU 6-5 over the final two minutes and would hold its largest lead of the contest, 48-33, heading into the final stanza.
4TH QUARTER
The Trailblazers started the quarter on a 14-1 run to work their deficit back to 49-47 after a layup from Abi Oates with 3:46 remaining in regulation. Kelci Adams made UNC Pembroke's first bucket of the period with a fast break layup to give the Braves a 51-47 advantage a minute later. North Greenville kept it a one possession game, 51-49, after a layup from Maliyiah Mason with 1:28 on the clock, but Anastasia Sinclair knocked down a three followed by four made free throws from Stella Mollica and a pair of free throws from Kelci Adams to fuel the outcome.  
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Anastasia Sinclair finished with a game-high 22 points on an 8-for-10 clip from the field. The sophomore pulled down four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals in 35 minutes of action. 
+ Natalie Evington chipped in nine points on a 3-for-5 showing from the perimeter and pulled down a rebound. Senior Hannah Russell also had nine points to go along with four rebounds one block and one assist.
+ Senior Stella Mollica dished out seven assists and had six rebounds, while senior Zaria Clark flirted with a double-double with nine rebounds and seven points. 
NOTABLES
UNC Pembroke shot 47.6 percent from the field which marked the program's best shooting percentage in six games. 
+ The Braves scored 13 points from 11 North Greenville turnovers. 
+ The Black & Gold held the lead for 87.3 percent of Saturday's victory. UNCP also did not trail by more than a point during the game. 
+ The Braves outscored North Greenville 35-0 with points from the bench. 

UP NEXT
The Braves will play their final regular season game on Wednesday when they host Mount Olive. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
