Braves Cruise Past Salem In Game 1 Win

CARY, N.C. – UNC Pembroke scored all 13 of its runs in the first four innings, before turning the game over to the bullpen to close out a 13-4 win over Salem in Game 1 of the series Friday afternoon at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

Facing a 1-0 deficit heading into the home half of the second inning, the Braves scored five in the second and seven in the fourth, with a one-run third inning in between to take command of the series opener.

Every starter recorded at least one hit, with Will Hood leading the way with a 4-5, two-RBI day. Jake Bradley added two hits, including a solo blast to tie the contest in the second inning.

The Braves (2-2) improved to 15-1 in the all-time series with the Tigers (0-1), as the two squads met for the first time since the 2013 season.

UNCP will be back in action Saturday for Game 2 of the series. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 2 Jake Bradley led off the frame and deposited a 2-0 pitch deep into left field to tie the game a 1-1. Jacob Smith would follow with a hustle double and would come around to score on Kasen McCawley's RBI single. McCawley would move to second on a balk and score on Isaias Villarreal's two-out RBI single. Will Hood would score Villarreal on an RBI single, while Luis Ramirez was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a wild pitch to give the Braves a 5-1 lead.
BOT 4 Ramirez worked a walk to lead off the frame and moved up 90 feet on Hood's infield single. They would each advance 90 feet on another Salem balk, before Zane Brockman scored Ramirez with an RBI single. Bradley followed with an RBI single of his own, before Bradley raced home on a perfectly-executed double steal. Blake Hinson added an RBI with a sacrifice fly, before Ramirez and Hood each added RBI singles to stretch the lead to 13-3.
