Braves Grind Out Game 2 Win Over Salem

CARY, N.C. – UNC Pembroke rode a three-run sixth inning and excellent outings from Jonathon Jacobs and Landon Lucas on the way to a 5-1 victory over Salem in Game 2 of the series Saturday afternoon at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

Facing an early deficit for the second-straight day, the Braves tied the game with a single run in the third, took the lead with a run in the fifth, and then tacked on three more in the sixth to stretch the lead to 5-1.

Jacobs turned in a quality start, going six complete while allowing just three hits and an earned run to go along with six punchouts. Landon Lucas picked up the save with three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and racking up four strikeouts.

The Braves (3-2) improved to 16-1 in the all-time series with the Tigers (0-2). 

UNCP will be back in action Sunday as they look to complete the sweep. First pitch is set for noon.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 5 Jacob Smith worked a leadoff and moved to second on a passed ball. An Ashton Donathan sac bunt moved Smith up to third, before Kasen McCawley brought him with a sac fly to give the Braves a 2-1 lead.
BOT 6 Isaias Villarreal led off the frame with a walk and came around to score on Will Hood's RBI double. Zane Brockman followed with an RBI single to score Hood, before eventually scoring on a successful safety squeeze from Smith to stretch the lead to 5-1.
