Softball Falls To Rollins, Lander At Brianna Surrento Kickoff Classic

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The UNC Pembroke softball team registered four hits and took a late lead with a pair of runs in the sixth inning, but five errors and a three-run seventh inning from Rollins proved to be the difference as the Tars defeated the Braves 5-4. 


The Braves tallied 10 hits against Lander in the second game of the Brianna Surrento Kickoff Classic, but the Bearcats registered 11 hits and scored eight runs in the fifth inning to secure a 16-7 victory over UNCP.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 6 Chloe Locklear reached on an error and then stole second. Katie Hogue smacked a double to left field to score Locklear. Hogue moved over to third on a ground out, and would score on an error to give the Braves a 3-1 lead. 
TOP 7 Rollins loaded the bases on a pair of singles and fielder's choice. An ill-timed throwing error scored a pair of runs to tie the score at 3-3. Rollins plated another run on another UNCP error to take a 4-3 lead.  
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 2 Lander loaded the bases after a pair of UNC Pembroke fielding errors and a walk. Naya Jones singled through the left side to drive in a run. Gracie Derrick plated a pair of runs after a fielding and a throwing error, followed by a single through the left side from Linda Moore to give the Bearcats at 4-1 lead. 
TOP 4 UNC Pembroke loaded the bases with singles from Cirsten Calloway and Kylie Johnson, and a walk from Kaitlyn King. Marijo Wilkes lit up the scoreboard with a grand slam over the left field fence. The Braves put runners on first and second following a single from Chloe Locklear and a walk from Katie Hogue, but Samantha Allred knocked a single to the outfield gap to score Locklear and knot the score at 6-6. 
BOT 5 Lander drew three straight walks to load the bases, and would score the first run of the inning on the fourth walk. Linda Moore beat out an infield single to drive in a run, followed by a two-run single through the right side from Reagan Hill. Emily Allen and Raquel Camuglia both drove in a run with singles to the outfield, and an ill-timed throwing error scored the final two runs of the game.
