Fourth Quarter Surge Helps Young Harris By Women’s Basketball

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris outscored the UNC Pembroke women's basketball team 19-9 in the fourth quarter and limited the Braves to a season-low 29.7 shooting performance on the way to a 59-45 victory on Saturday afternoon inside the Harp Recreation & Commencement Center. 
 
The setback for the Braves (17-6, 11-4 CC) marked the first time the team has lost consecutive games this season. The Mountain Lions (14-8, 7-7 CC) have now won two out of their last three contests and improve to 10-2 when playing at home this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
Young Harris took an early 5-2 lead following an old-fashioned three-point play from Kamryn Bates, but a three from Malea Garrison tied the score at 5 apiece at the 6:43 mark. A bucket from Stella Mollica and a triple from Natalie Evington gave the Braves a 12-9 lead, as UNCP held a slight 13-11 advantage after the first period. 
2ND QUARTER
The Mountain Lions scored the first seven points of the quarter to take an 18-13 lead with 6:32 remaining in the half, but Natalie Evington knocked down a three to cut the UNCP deficit back to 18-16 with five minutes left on the clock. The hosts put together another 6-0 run to push their lead out to 24-16, as the Mountain Lions held a 30-20 advantage as the teams headed into the locker rooms. 
3RD QUARTER
Anastasia Sinclair made good on a 3-pointer to cut the UNC Pembroke deficit back to 36-25 at the 5:29 mark, but Kamryn Bates padded the Young Harris lead, 38-25, with a running layup seconds later. Stella Mollica sparked the Braves on a 9-0 capped off with a jumper from Anastasia Sinclair with just a minute left in the period. The Braves shot 43.8 percent from the field during the period and trailed 40-36 heading into the final stanza. 
4TH QUARTER
Anastasia Sinclair canned a three followed by a layup from Malea Garrison to cut the UNCP deficit back to 42-41 with 7:23 remaining in regulation. Young Harris went on an 11-0 surge to push the hosts lead out to 53-41 with a layup from Annalise Malone at the 3:47 mark. The hosts shot 42.9 percent from the field during the period and outscored UNCP 19-9 to help fuel the outcome. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Anastasia Sinclair finished with a team-high 17 points on a 7-for-15 shooting performance. The sophomore flirted with a double-double with seven rebounds, while also adding an assist and a steal. 
+ Malea Garrison nearly registered a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds in 22 minutes of work.
+ Natalie Evington finished 3-for-3 from the perimeter for nine points. 
NOTABLES
+ UNC Pembroke was held to a season-low 29.7 percent shooting from the field. The Braves were 6-for-30 from the perimeter. 
+ Young Harris held the lead for 30:23 of Saturday's victory. 
+ The Braves picked up 20 points from their bench. 
+ UNCP was just 1-for-2 from the free throw line, while YHC was 14-for-19 from the charity stripe. 

UP NEXT
The Braves will return to action on Wednesday when they host Chowan for Tribe Night. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
