Softball Drops Twinbill At Tusculum

GREENVILLE, Tenn. – Tusculum recorded 20 hits across two games to help the Pioneers to a non-conference sweep over the UNC Pembroke softball team on Saturday at Red Edmonds Field. 
 
The Pioneers scored multiple runs in four innings and held the Braves to just five hits in the opening contest to take game one 10-2 in six innings. TU tacked up four runs in the bottom of the third inning to highlight a 7-1 victory in the back half of the doubleheader. 
 
The Braves (6-15) have now lost their last four games and fall to just 1-11 when playing on the road this season. The Pioneers (21-1) have now won their last eight games and are a perfect 10-0 when playing on their home field.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 2 Tusculum put runners on first and second after Caylen Conrad reached on a fielding error and Danielle Jason singled to the catcher. Brooke Smith knocked a single to center field to score Conrad, followed by a two-run single from Ellie Alvarez to right center to put TU up 5-1. 
BOT 6 Tusculum put runners on first and second after a bunt single from Brooke Smith and Sammy Jimenez drew a walk. Gabi Nicholson double to the right center field gap to score a pair of runs followed by an RBI single from Megan Ackerman to end the game. 
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 1 Danielle Jason reached on a fielding error, stole second and stood on third after a wild pitch. Brooke Smith walked, but a wild pitch scored Jason and moved Smith to second. Gabi Nicholson found the outfield for a sacrifice fly, followed by an RBI single through the left side from Alyssa Barbrick to give the Pioneers a 3-0 lead. 
BOT 3 Brooke Smith drew a walk, stole second and scored on a singled from Sammy Jimenez. Gabi Nicholson singled through the left side to put runners on first and second, followed by an RBI single to right field from Alyssa Barbrick.

The Braves will return to action on Wednesday when they welcome Kutztown for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch of the twinbill is set for 10 a.m. at Purnell Swett High School.
