Baseball Takes Down No. 8 Mount Olive In Series Opener

CARY, N.C. – UNC Pembroke got a solid start from Spencer Ledford and two quality relief outings from Landon Lucas and Seth Willis on the way to a 5-3 win over eighth-ranked Mount Olive on Friday evening at the USA Baseball NTC.

Ledford allowed just two earned runs in his 5+ innings, while Lucas and Willis allowed just one run the rest of the way as Willis picked up his fifth save of the season.

Morgan Padgett turned in a 2-3 day, including a double and two RBI, while Lucas also provided two hits and a solo blast.

The Braves (15-9, 5-5 CC) moved to 19-33 in the all-time series with the Trojans (18-7, 10-3 CC). 

UNCP will be back in action Saturday as the two squads wrap up the series with a doubleheader. First pitch is set for noon at the USA Baseball NTC.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 2 Jake Bradley walked to leadoff the frame and moved to second on Jacob Smith's sac bunt. Morgan Padgett followed with an RBI double, while Landon Lucas singled to put runners at the corners. Will Hood singled up the middle to drive in Padgett to give the Braves an early 2-0 lead.
TOP 3 Mount Olive answered right back, using a Lane McLean RBI single and a bases-loaded hit by pitch by Mike Kenney to make it 2-2.
BOT 5 Lucas led off the inning with a two-strike solo blast to left to give the Braves a 3-2 lead.
BOT 7 Ramses Cordova reached on a one-out double and came home to score on Blake Hinson's RBI double to stretch the lead to 5-2.
