Baseball Splits Doubleheader, Takes Series Over No. 8 Mount Olive

CARY, N.C. – UNC Pembroke saw its lead disappear with a two-out game-tying home run in the seventh inning from Mount Olive on the way to a 5-3 loss in Game 2 of the series, but the Braves shook it off and tallied 13 hits on the way to an 8-2 win in the rubber match to take the series over the eighth-ranked Trojans on Saturday afternoon at the USA Baseball NTC.

Jake Bradley homered while Landon Lucas was 2-4 with two RBI to lead the way offensively in Game 2, while Jonathon Jacobs got a tough-luck no decision after not allowing an earned run in 6.2 innings.

In the series finale, Blake Hinson and Ashton Donathan each tallied three hits, while Lucas drove in a pair for the second-straight game. Kasen McCawley, Moses Brown, and Jacob Smith combined to allow just three Mount Olive hits.

The Braves (16-10, 6-6 CC) moved to 20-34 in the all-time series with the Trojans (19-8, 11-4 CC).

UNCP will be back in action Tuesday, March 18 as they host Wingate for a non-conference matchup. Due to ongoing renovations at Sammy Cox Field, the game will be held at CarolinaBank Field in Florence, S.C. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
