Baseball Battles Past Wingate In Midweek Action

FLORENCE, S.C. – UNC Pembroke faced an early 6-1 deficit, but would score nine of the game's next ten runs on the way to a 10-7 win over Wingate on Tuesday afternoon at CarolinaBank Field.

Taylor Harris, Moses Brown, Jacob Smith, and Landon Lucas would combine to go the final seven innings, allowing just four hits and a single run, with Brown turning in two scoreless innings to pick up his first career win.

Jake Bradley homered for the second-straight game and led the UNCP offense with three RBI. Ramses Cordova and Morgan Padgett each chipped in with two RBI. 

The Braves (17-10) improved to 54-36 in the all-time series with the Bulldogs (12-14), and are now 24-6 in the last 30 matchups against Wingate.


UNCP will be back in action Friday, March 21 as they hit the road to Murfreesboro for a Conference Carolinas series at Chowan. First pitch Friday is set for 3 p.m., with a doubleheader Saturday set for a noon start.

KEY INNINGS
TOP 1 Wingate struck first, using a wild pitch, a Breon Ishmael RBI single, and a Landon Meyer RBI groundout to take an early 3-0 lead.
BOT 1 The Braves answered right back, as Isaias Villarreal singled and came home on Jake Bradley's two-run blast to cut the deficit to 3-2.
BOT 3 After the Bulldogs took a 6-2 lead after the top of the third, Villarreal singled to lead off the inning and would come around to score on a Bradley RBI single, while Morgan Padgett would bring home Bradley with a sac fly to make it 6-4.
BOT 6 Will Hood and Luis Ramirez would each single before both coming home to score on Ramses Cordova's two-RBI single to tie the game at 6-6.
BOT 7 Hayden Davis led off the frame with a single and came home on a Ramirez RBI double to give the Braves a 7-6 lead, while Ramirez would score on a Wingate error to make it 8-6.
