Softball Rallies By Erskine

MAXTON - The UNC Pembroke softball team registered 20 hits and used a pair of triples from Alona Hanna, a double from Chloe Locklear and a homerun from Samantha Allred to highlight a sweep over Erskine on Saturday afternoon at the Purnell Swett Softball Field. 

UNCP capitalized on a trio of EC errors and used a dominating performance in the circle from Summer Bullard to take the opening contest 5-1.

The Flying Fleet put up a run on the board in four-straight innings to take a 4-1 lead, but the Braves rallied and tacked up five runs across two innings for the come from behind 6-4 victory to complete the sweep.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
TOP 1 Peyton Rabon sent one out of the park over the right field fence to give Erskine and early 1-0 lead. 
BOT 5 Cayden Thomas reached first after getting hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Marijo Wilkes drew a walk, but a wild pitch would score Thomas and advance Wilkes to second. Kylie Johnson would reach on a fielding error that would score Wilkes and give the Braves a 4-1 lead. 
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
TOP 4 Peyton Rabon double to the right centerfield gap and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Amber Clark drew a walk, but Rabon would score on a Gabby Burroughs single to the shortstop to give Erskine a 3-1 advantage. 
BOT 5 Katie Hogue beat out an infield single to the shortstop, but Samantha Allred smacked a homer over the center field fence for a two-run blast. Marijo Wilkes singled to right field and scored on a double to the outfield gap from Chloe Locklear to tie the score at 4-4. 
BOT 6 The Braves loaded the bases after a Kaitlynn Hunt walk, an Alona Hanna single and Katie Hogue was hit by a pitch. Samantha Allred drove in a run with an RBI single to center field, followed by Hanna scoring on a passed ball.

The Braves will hit the road on Wednesday and trek to Murfreesboro for a Conference Carolinas doubleheader against Chowan. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at the Chowan Softball Field.
