Softball Splits Doubleheader At Chowan

MURFREESBORO - The UNC Pembroke softball team took the back half of the doubleheader to split a Conference Carolinas series with Chowan on Wednesday afternoon at the CU Softball Field. 

The Hawks snapped a five-game skid and picked up just their second conference win of the season by scoring a trio of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the Braves 7-3 in the opening contest. 

UNCP scored multiple runs in four innings and registered 13 hits to salvage a split of the series with a 10-5 victory over Chowan.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
TOP 2 Marijo Wilkes drew a leadoff walk and would score on a two-run blast over the left field fence from Chloe Locklear. 
BOT 6 Kyra Helton and Ava Mizell drew walks, followed by Kyndal Hopkins reaching on a fielding error that scored Helton. Mckenzie Misenheimer put down a bunt to score Mizell, followed by an RBI from Kaitlyn Springle to give Chowan a 7-3 lead. 
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
TOP 3 UNC Pembroke loaded the bases with singles from Kylie Johnson and Kaitlynn Hunt and a walk from Katie Hogue. Samantha Allred drove in a pair of runs with a single up the middle. UNCP would load the bases against following a walk from Marijo Wilkes, as the Braves capped off the inning with an RBI walk from Alona Hanna to lead 5-0. 
BOT 5 Kaitlyn Springle beat out an infield single, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Mckenzie Misenheimer drew a walk and then stole second, while allowed Springle to score. Ava Mizell singled through the left side to score Misenheimer to cut the Chowan deficit back to 7-3. 
TOP 6 Kaitlynn Hunt beat out an infield second and advanced to second after Katie Hogue reached on a fielding error. Chloe Locklear smacked a single up the middle to score Hunt, followed by a two-run single up the middle from Marijo Wilkes.
