MAXTON – Wingate recorded nine hits and tacked up insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings to defeat the UNC Pembroke softball team 7-3 in the opening game of the doubleheader at Purnell Swett Softball Field. 

The Braves used doubles from Kaitlynn Hunt and Alona Hanna in game two while also scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to salvage a split of the twinbill with a 7-5 victory over the Bulldogs.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
TOP 1	Savanna Brooks and Hali Scott both singled, but Hannah Stevens lit up the scoreboard with a three-run blast over the left center field fence.
BOT 5	UNC Pembroke loaded the bases with walk from Marijo Wilkes, Katie Hogue and Zoe Godard. Alex Serbio drove home a run, followed by a two-run double from Kaitlynn Hunt down the left field line to trail 4-3.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 1	Alex Serbio started the inning with a leadoff single and moved to third on a double from Kaitlynn Hunt. Alona Hanna plated both runners with a double and would score later in the inning to put the Braves ahead 3-0.
TOP 3	Jaden Burns and Kaylee Hobgood both singled, as Burns would score on a single from Lily Huneycutt. An infield groundout from Savanna Brooks scored Hobgood.
BOT 5	Cirsten Calloway started the inning with a leadoff single followed by a single from Alex Serbio. Kaitlynn Hunt smacked a single to center field to score Calloway, followed by a single from Alona Hanna drove in Serbio and Hunt to give UNCP a 6-3 lead. Hanna would score on a groundout from Samantha Allred for a 7-3 UNC Pembroke lead.
