Baseball Falls To No. 11 Catawba In Midweek Action

FLORENCE, S.C. – 11th-ranked Catawba jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, and then held off a ninth-inning rally from UNC Pembroke to take a 7-5 win over the Braves in non-conference action Tuesday at CarolinaBank Field.

UNCP brought the winning run to the plate with two outs in the ninth, but Catawba's Hayden Simmerson got a game-ending groundout to preserve the win.

Jake Bradley stayed hot at the plate, recording three hits and a home run for the second time in four games as part of a 3-5, four-RBI afternoon. Luis Ramirez, Isaias Villarreal, and Ramses Cordova each added two hits apiece as the Braves outhit Catawba 10-8.

The Braves (23-19) fell to 33-32 in the all-time series with the Indians (30-11).

UNCP will be back in action Friday, April 18 as they host Erskine for a Conference Carolinas series. Due to delays in construction at Sammy Cox Field, the series will be held at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. First pitch Friday is set for 1 p.m., with a doubleheader Saturday slated to begin at noon. The Braves will celebrate its 2025 senior class before the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
