Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader, Series Against Erskine On Senior Day

CARY – UNC Pembroke used a sixth-inning rally to take Game 2 of the series 3-2, and rode a strong start from Jonathon Jacobs in Game 3 to complete the Senior Day sweep of Erskine with a 7-2 win Saturday afternoon at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

Ramses Cordova played hero in the opener, sneaking a two-run double just inside the third-base line to give the Braves a 3-2 lead, before Seth Willis came on to nail down his tenth save of the season.

Jacobs turned in a quality start in the series finale, going six complete and allowing just one earned run on six hits, while also striking out six. 

Luis Ramirez and Will Hood each turned in 3-4 outings in Game 3, with Hood adding a triple and Ramirez a double. 

The Braves (26-19, 14-13 CC) moved to 14-4 in the all-time series with the Flying Fleet (18-28, 7-20 CC), while also taking its winning streak in the series out to nine games.

UNCP will be back in action Friday, April 25 as they head to Wilson to take on Barton for a Conference Carolinas series to close out the regular-season portion of the schedule. First pitch Friday is set for 3 p.m. at Nixon Field.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
TOP 2 Erskine struck first on a Pierce Radke RBI single to jump out to an early 1-0 lead.
BOT 6 After the Flying Fleet tacked on another run in the fifth to make it 2-0, the Braves started its rally with a one-out Will Hood single. Hood moved to second on Isaias Villarreal's single, before Zane Brockman got UNCP on the board with an RBI single up the middle to score Hood. Ramses Cordova gave the Braves a 3-2 lead with a two-run double down the third-base line.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 2 The Braves would take a quick lead as Hood led of the frame with a triple and came home on Villarreal's sac fly to make it 1-0.
BOT 3 Cordova turned on the first pitch of the inning for a leadoff double, before moving to third on a Luis Ramirez single. Ramirez stole second as Cordova came on a throwing error to make it 2-0. Jake Bradley and Hood each followed with RBI singles to stretch the lead to 4-0.
BOT 4 Villarreal was hit by a pitch and stole second before Landon Lucas also reached via hit by pitch. Villarreal and Lucas executed a double steal and would come home to score on Blake Hinson's two-run single up the middle to make it 6-0. Ramirez capped off the inning with an RBI double to score Hinson to give the Braves a 7-0 lead.
