Baseball Splits Doubleheader Against Barton

WILSON, N.C. – UNC Pembroke used an eight-run third inning in Game 1 on the way to an 11-4 win, but then saw Barton use an eight-run inning of their own in Game 2 as the Bulldogs evened the series with a 12-4 win Friday afternoon at Nixon Field.

Isaias Villarreal paced the offense in the series opener, turning in a 4-5 outing, including a double, home run, and three RBI. Jacob Smith twirled 2.1 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win. In Game 2, Barton would send 13 batters to the plate in the bottom of the fifth and score eight runs on six hits to put the game out of reach.

The Braves (27-20, 15-14 CC) fell to 45-55 in the all-time series with the Bulldogs (29-19, 19-10 CC).

UNCP will be back in action Saturday as the two squads close out the regular season with the series rubber match. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Nixon Field.

BOT 1 Barton struck first on a Yariel Diaz two-run single to take a quick 2-0 lead.
TOP 2 The Braves would answer right back, as Will Hood led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on Kasen McCawley's bunt single. Zane Brockman doubled to score Hood, while McCawley came home on a wild pitch to tie the game at 2-2. Blake Hinson followed with an RBI single to score Brockman, before a Luis Ramirez RBI single made it 4-2. Hayden Davis kept the line moving with a two-run single, before Isaias Villarreal capped off the scoring with a two-run double to stretch the lead to 8-2.
TOP 7 Villarreal added his fourth hit of the game, this time a solo blast to left to make it 11-4.
