Baseball Tames Bulldogs, Closes Regular Season With Series Win

WILSON, N.C. – UNC Pembroke used a barrage of extra-base hits, including four home runs to take a 17-8 win and clinch the series over Barton on Saturday afternoon at Nixon Field.

Landon Lucas homered twice as part of a 2-4, five RBI day, while Luis Ramirez and Isaias Villarreal also joined the home run party. Ramirez would finish a triple shy of the cycle, turning in a 4-5, two RBI outing.

Jonathon Jacobs grinded through six innings to pick up the win. 

The Braves (28-20, 16-14 CC) moved to 46-55 in the all-time series with the Bulldogs (29-20, 19-11 CC), and have now won four of the last five three-game series with Barton.

UNCP earned the No. 5 seed for next week's Conference Carolinas Tournament, and will take on No. 4 seed North Greenville on Thursday, May 1 at Sims Legion Park in Gastonia. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. More information on the conference tournament can be found here.

KEY INNINGS
TOP 1 The Braves found themselves with a 2-0 lead just four pitches into the game, as Blake Hinson led off with a single and came home on a Luis Ramirez blast to left.
TOP 2 UNCP wasted no time adding on to the lead, as Isaias Villarreal deposited the first pitch of the inning over the left-field wall to make it 3-0. Landon Lucas made it back-to-back jacks with a solo blast to left center to stretch the lead to 4-0. Hinson would then start a two-out rally with a walk, before moving to third on a Ramirez double. Hayden Davis followed with an RBI infield single to score Hinson to give the Braves a 5-0 lead.
BOT 2 Barton would cut the lead to 5-4 on an RBI walk, two sac flies, and an RBI single.
TOP 4 Ramirez singled, Davis doubled, and Jake Bradley was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Will Hood delivered an RBI, while Barton added an error on the play to score Ramirez and Davis, before Villarreal followed with an RBI double to score Bradley to make it 9-4. Lucas scored Hood via sac fly, while Villarreal came home on a wild pitch to stretch the lead to 11-4.
TOP 9 Hood worked a leadoff walk and Villarreal was hit by a pitch, before everyone came home on a Landon Lucas bomb to make it 17-5.
