Baseball Drops Tight One To North Greenville In Conference Carolinas Tournament

GASTONIA, N.C. – Fifth-seeded UNC Pembroke rallied to tie the game in the seventh inning, but saw tenth-ranked and No. 4 seed North Greenville deliver a walk-off single in the ninth inning to take a 3-2 win over the Braves in Conference Carolinas Tournament action Thursday at Sims Legion Park.

Isaias Villarreal's RBI single in the seventh tied the game at 2-2, but Alton Gyselman's two-out RBI single gave the Trailblazers the 3-2 walk-off win. 

Blake Hinson led the way with a 2-3 afternoon, while Villarreal and Hayden Davis each drove in one run.

Jacob Smith went a career-high tying seven innings to turn in a quality start, allowing just two earned runs on three hits.

The Braves (28-21) fell to 3-13 in the all-time series with the Trailblazers (43-11). 

The Black & Gold will be back in action Friday as they take on No. 1 seed Francis Marion in an elimination game. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. at CaroMont Health Park.

KEY INNINGS
TOP 1 The Braves took an early lead as Blake Hinson led off the game with a single and advanced to second on a North Greenville throwing error. Luis Ramirez followed with a single, before Hayden Davis brought home Hinson via sac fly to take a 1-0 lead.
BOT 1 NGU answered back as Bryce Roddey led off the frame with a single and eventually scored on Gideon Antle's RBI single to make it 1-1.
BOT 2 The Trailblazers would take a 2-1 lead on Landon Peavy's full-count solo home run.
TOP 7 Jake Bradley worked a leadoff walk and moved to second on Will Hood's sac bunt. Isaias Villarreal followed with an RBI single to knot the score at 2-2.
BOT 9 Antle reached on a leadoff single and advanced to second on a wild pitch, before Payton Howard would move Antle to third on a sac bunt. The Braves would strikeout Thomas Powell for the second out, but Alton Gyselman singled through the left side to bring Antle home for the walk-off win.
