Hot Bats Guide Softball By Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK - The UNC Pembroke softball team tallied 25 hits including five doubles and four home runs on the way to sweep over Lees-McRae on Saturday at Bobcat Field. 
 
The Braves scored a run in five of the six innings of game one, including a seven-run sixth inning to highlight a 13-3 victory to start the day. 
 
UNCP put up multiple runs in four innings of game two and capitalized on six Lees-McRae errors to complete the sweep with a 13-4 outcome in game two.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
TOP 6 UNC Pembroke loaded the bases after Summer Bullard reached on a single and Kynley Brewer and Kaitlynn Hunt both reached on fielding errors. Alona Hanna plated Bullard after a sacrifice fly, followed by a two-run single up the middle from Samantha Allred. Marijo Wilkes drew a walk, but Chloe Locklear smacked an RBI double to the outfield gap to score Allred. Katie Hogue and Summer Bullard both picked up RBI singles, as Kylie Johnson drew a walk to score the seventh run of the inning. 
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
TOP 1 Kylie Johnson drew a four-pitch walk, Kaitlynn Hunt singled to center field, and Alona Hanna knocked an RBI single to center field to score Johnson. Marijo Wilkes reached on a fielding error that allowed both Hunt and Hanna to score. 
BOT 1 Lees-McRae put runners on the corners after Abby Hatley was hit by a pitch and Brittany Gingrich reached on an error. An ill-timed wild pitch allowed Hatley to score, as Gingrich would score later in the inning on a groundout. 
TOP 3 Kaitlynn Hunt and Alona Hanna reached first and second, but a single from Samantha Allred to center field score both Hunt and Hanna with an error. UNCP had runners on the corners after a single from Marijo Wilkes, but Chloe Locklear's double and a fielder's choice from Katie Hogue scored Allred and Wilkes to give the Braves a 7-2 lead.
