Dr. Rosie Cheng Named Assistant AD For Athletic Training & Sports Medicine

PEMBROKE – Athletics department officials at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke announced Tuesday afternoon that Dr. Rosie Cheng has been named Assistant Athletics Director for Athletic Training & Sports Medicine.
 
Cheng comes to Pembroke following a 13-year stint at Carnegie Mellon University where she served as the Assistant Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Wellness and Belonging as well as an athletic trainer. 

"We are very excited to have Rosie join #BraveNation to lead our athletic training unit," said Director of Athletics Dick Christy. "She has a wealth of experience in the classroom and in the embedded clinical model that we employ at UNCP. Her commitment to serving the needs of our coaches and student-athletes will be a great asset to our programs."

Prior to a stop at Carnegie Mellon, Cheng spent three years at the University of San Francisco where she was responsible for women's basketball and men's & women's cross country. She also had a stop at Keystone College, along with internships at Stanford and Santa Clara.

"I am excited and honored to join the UNC Pembroke Athletics family as the Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Training and Sports Medicine and lecturer," said Cheng. "This is an incredible opportunity to work alongside dedicated professionals who share a commitment to the success and well-being of our student-athletes. My goal is to enhance the health and safety of our teams, while also supporting the development of each athlete both on and off the field. I look forward to contributing my expertise in wellness to the UNC Pembroke Athletic Training Department and fostering a culture of excellence in everything we do."

Cheng earned a bachelor's degree in athletic training from the University of Pittsburgh in 2003 and completed her master's degree in kinesiology and athletic training at San Jose Sate in 2005. She finished her master's degree in public management from Carnegie Mellon in 2017 before earning her doctoral degree in education from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in 2025.
