Volleyball Knocks Off Coker, Albany State At UNCP Invitational

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team hit .177 from the net and registered seven aces and seven blocks to fuel a 3-1 (16-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-17) victory over Coker on Friday afternoon in the UNCP Invitational at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.

UNCP closed out the opening day of the UNCP Invitational logging 53 kills, 10 service aces and nine blocks to help defeat Albany State 3-1 (22-25, 25-13, 25-14, 25-14) on Friday evening.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 16-25	Coker established an early 4-2 lead against the UNC Pembroke, highlighted by two kills from Cayla Gilmore. The Cobras continued their momentum with a series of consecutive points, including a service ace from Anisten Meyers and multiple kills by Alyssa Carey, extending their lead out to 7-3. The Braves responded with a brief rally, cutting the deficit to 7-6 following a kill by Kaitlyn Koel. However, Coker widened their lead with a 5-0 run, marked by a service ace and several attack errors by UNC Pembroke, reaching a 15-7 advantage. Despite a late surge from the Braves, scoring five consecutive points to close the gap to 24-16, Coker clinched the set with a kill by McKay Kasper.
SET 2 I 25-20	Savannah Whaley tallied back-to-back kills to knot the score at 6-6 early in the set. The Braves then began to pull ahead with Savannah Whaley contributing another kill for a 10-8 lead. The Cobras answered with a series of points to bring the score to 20-21, but a critical kill by Abby Peduzzi and two service aces from Tyler Patterson extended the UNCP lead to 24-20. The hosts took the set with a kill from Savannah Whaley.
SET 3 I 25-17	UNCP opened the set with a strong 4-0 run that included a service ace by Tyler Patterson at 3-0. Coker narrowed the gap to 13-13, but the Braves responded with a 5-0 run, highlighted by Addie Decker's kills and a service ace, extending their lead to 18-13. Alexandria Mills delivered key plays, including a block and kill, helping the Braves clinch the set with a final score of 25-17.
SET 4 I 25-17	The Braves started with an early 2-0 lead following attack errors from Coker. Despite Coker leveling the score at 3-3, the Braves capitalized on a series of attack errors and kills by Savannah Whaley and Addie Decker, pushing their lead to 11-6. UNCP went on a 5-0 run keyed by a service ace by Brette Doile, extending the lead to 17-9. The Cobras attempted to rally back, but the UNC Pembroke solid performance, capped by a service ace from Doile, secured a decisive 25-17 victory in the set.

SET 1 I 22-25	Albany State seized momentum with a series of points, including a service ace from Maya Ogbogu, which pushed their lead to 8-6. UNC Pembroke managed to level the score at 15-15, thanks to a service ace by Peduzzi and consecutive attack errors from Albany State. However, Albany State responded with a decisive push, capitalizing on attack errors from the Braves to secure a 25-22 victory in the opening set.
SET 2 I 25-13	Braves opened with a strong start, quickly establishing a 3-0 lead with kills from Addie Decker and Alexandria Mills. Albany State responded with a point, but the Braves maintained momentum, extending their advantage to 5-1 with a service ace from Anaya Carter. Albany State attempted to close the gap with a service ace by Talia Smith, but UNCP used a kill and a service ace from Savannah Whaley to help take the second set.
SET 3 I 25-14	The Black & Gold established a 3-0 lead with consecutive points, including a kill by Tyler Patterson. Albany State managed to close the gap to 6-3, but the Braves regained momentum with a 4-1 run, highlighted by Addie Decker's kill, pushing the score out to 10-6. Despite a brief surge by Albany State, which cut the deficit to 12-11, the Braves responded decisively with a sequence of successful plays, including two kills by Addie Decker and a service ace by Brette Doile, extending their lead to 22-14. The Braves capitalized on Albany State's errors to close the set 25-14.
SET 4 I 25-13	UNCP took a 3-0 lead, but Albany State responded with a 4-0 run, highlighted by Jarianis Perez's service aces, to knot the score at 4-4. However, the Braves countered with a strong 6-0 rally, including an ace by Emily Collings, to pull ahead 9-4. The Braves hit a match-high .350 from the net during the set to help secure the match.
