Soccer Logs Third-Straight Shutout, Takes Down Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE – UNC Pembroke allowed just four shots on goal and scored a goal apiece in each half en route to a 2-0 road victory over Mount Olive in Conference Carolinas play Saturday night at Amon Field.

Leila Utate recorded her first collegiate goal with her first-half tally, while Mercy Bell scored her third goal of the season in the second half to put the game away.

The Braves (3-2-0, 3-0-0 CC) improved to 15-4-2 in the all-time series with the Trojans (1-4-0, 0-2-0 CC), and have now won the last four meetings by a combined score of 9-1.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
37' A UNCP shot caromed off the crossbar, before Leila Utate won a race to the loose ball and one-touched it into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.
55' A Mount Olive failed clearance found the foot of Mercy Bell, who snuck it past the diving UMO goalkeeper to stretch the lead to 2-0.
TOP BRAVES
+ Mercy Bell tallied a game-high six shots and a team-high two shots on goal, to go along with her goal.
+ Leila Utate and Reagan Carr each logged three shots.
+ Addison Ellsworth recorded four saves to pick up her third-straight clean sheet.

UNCP will continue its three-game Conference Carolinas road trip on September 23, as they head to Wilson to take on Barton. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Truist Stadium.
