Volleyball Battles By Mount Olive

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team hit .215 from the net and tallied six blocks to secure a 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 26-24) sweep over Mount Olive on Wednesday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.

The Braves (6-4, 3-0 CC) have now won their last three matches and improve to 26-13 all-time against UMO. The Trojans (3-6, 2-1 CC) fall to 1-2 when playing on the road this season and are just 2-14 all-time when playing UNCP in Pembroke.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-23 UNC Pembroke initially gained momentum with kills from McKenna Hayes and Abby Peduzzi, leading to an 8-6 advantage. However, the Trojans responded with a series of points, including a service ace by Caroline Sheaffer, to tie the score at 10-10. UMO then took control, building a 17-12 lead after a block by Danielle Parker and Olivia Melvin. The Braves fought back, narrowing the gap with a service ace by Alexandria Mills and a kill by Tyler Patterson to tie at 20-20. The hosts closed out the set on a 5-3 surge to take the opening set. 
SET 2 I 25-22 Mount Olive started strong in the second set with a service ace by Breanna Tanton, followed by a kill from Breanna Reisinger, establishing a 2-0 lead. UNC Pembroke responded with a kill from Addie Decker service ace by Anaya Carter to tie the score at 2-2. A series of consecutive errors by Mount Olive allowed UNC Pembroke to pull ahead 13-6. The Braves would put together a 5-0 run to push their lead out to 20-11, but the Trojans answered with an 11-3 run to trail 23-22. The hosts capitalized on a service error from UMO and used a service ace from Tyler Patterson to win the set. 
SET 3 I 26-24 UNC Pembroke initially gained an advantage, with a service ace from Anaya Carter and strong blocking by Alexandria Mills and Abby Peduzzi contributing to a 4-2 lead. Breanna Reisinger responded with multiple kills for UMO, leveling the score at 8-8. Later, service aces by Sheaffer allowed Mount Olive to briefly capture the lead at 9-8. Both teams exchanged points, but the Braves hit .200 in the final set to secure the match.
