Men's Basketball Rights Ship, Downs Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. – The UNC Pembroke men's basketball shot 48 percent from the field and made a season-high 32 free throws on the way to an 88-76 victory over Francis Marion on Wednesday evening inside the Smith Univeristy Center. 

The Braves (7-6, 4-1 CC) have now won the last seven meetings with Francis Marion when playing the Patriots in Florence, S.C. The Patriots (3-10, 3-2 CC) have now lost three out of their last four contests and fall to just 1-7 when playing at home.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
UNC Pembroke opened the game with a strong offensive burst, spearheaded by Nygell Verdier's early three-pointer at 19:42. Verdier continued to dominate with multiple layups, helping the visitors build a 10-0 lead before the Patriots got on the board with Adonis Cole's jumper at 16:50. Moe Bangura added to the lead with a dunk and a three-pointer, contributing significantly to a 12-point advantage midway through the half. Despite a late push from Francis Marion, including a three-pointer by Cole Deptula at 1:17, the Braves maintained control, closing the half with a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Verdier, ending the first half with a 41-28 lead.
2ND HALF
The Braves extended their lead in the second half with effective play from the free-throw line, converting 24 of 39 attempts in the second half. Moe Bangura contributed significantly to their scoring with a pair of layups and a fast-break play by the 8:09 mark, pushing the score to 61-45. Francis Marion's Troy Santos kept the home team competitive with two late three-pointers and a layup, but the Braves maintained control. The game ended with UNC Pembroke securing an 88-76 victory, as Connor Harris knocked down a pair of free throws to end the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Nygell Verdier finished with a season-high 19 points on a 7-for-12 shooting performance. The redshirt senior grabbed seven rebounds, had two assists, one block and one steal in 31 minutes of work.
+ Moe Bangura matched his career-high with 18 points going 7-for-10 from the floor. Bangura pulled down four rebounds to go along with a steal and a block in 23 minutes of work. 
+ Newcomer Sean Burress, Jr., came off of the bench to turn in 13 points highlighted by a 6-for-8 clip from the free throw line. 
NOTABLES
+ UNC Pembroke shot 48 percent from the field during Wednesday's victory, while Francis Marion shot 41.2 percent from the field. 
+ The Braves scored 17 points from 13 Francis Marion turnovers.
+ The Braves made a season-best 32 free throws on a season-high 51 attempts.
+ UNCP picked up 19 second chance points.
