Volleyball Knocks Off Southern Wesleyan

CENTRAL, S.C. – The UNC Pembroke volleyball recorded nine service aces and hit .214 from the net to defeat Southern Wesleyan 3-1 on Saturday afternoon inside Tysinger Gymnasium. 

The Braves improve to 8-1 all-time against the Warriors and have now won the last seven matches against SWU.

SET 1 I 26-28 Abby Peduzzi's kill knotted the score at 20 apiece, but the Braves would get set point, 25-24 after winning three points in a row. Southern Wesleyan fought off a set point and won four of the final five points to take the opening set. 
    - SWU out-hit UNCP .154 to .145 in the set.
    - Abby Peduzzi, Addie Decker and Savannah Whaley each had four kills. 
SET 2 I 25-15 UNCP held a 19-15 advantage after an ill-timed service error from SWU, but the Braves won six of the final nine points to win the second set.  
    - UNCP out-hit SWU .300 to .140 in the set.
    - Abby Peduzzie logged five kills. 
    - Emily Collings and Tyler Patterson both a service ace. 
SET 3 I 25-17 UNC Pembroke got a quick start and pushed its lead out to 16-9 after a kill from Addie Decker. The Warriors tried to cut into the deficit, 21-13, but the Braves won four of the final eight points. 
    - UNCP out-hit SWU .151 to .085 in the set. 
    - Addie Decker registered five kills. 
SET 4 I 25-16 Southern Wesleyan capitalized on a UNC Pembroke attack error to trail 15-13, but the Braves went on a 5-0 run to push their lead out to 20-13. UNCP closed out the match winning five of the final eight points.  
    - UNCP out-hit SWU .324 to .222 in the set.
    - Abby Peduzzi registered five kills.
    - Alexandria Mills and Deorri Gaines both picked up a solo block during the set.
