Football Drops Nailbiter To No. 17 North Greenville

PEMBROKE - UNC Pembroke jumped out to an early 21-0 lead, but No. 17 North Greenville rallied back and denied a game-winning two-point conversion attempt with 34 seconds remaining as the Braves fell 42-41 Saturday at Grace P. Johnson Stadium on American Indian Heritage Day presented by The Town of Pembroke.

The Braves racked up 484 yards of total offense and controlled the time of possession 36:25-23:35, while also scoring a touchdown on all five red-zone chances.

UNCP (4-2, 1-1 CC) fell to 3-6 in the all-time series with North Greenville (5-0, 2-0 CC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
UNC Pembroke got on the board first with a six-play, 66-yard touchdown drive highlighted by a 27-yard rush from Josh Ehrlich and a 23-yard completion from Ehrlich to Jonathan Barnett, before Ehrlich scampered in from 12 yards out. (7-0 UNCP)

After forcing a North Greenville three-and-out on its first offensive drive, the Braves struck again with a 68-yard touchdown pass from Ehrlich to Malik Brown on the first play of the drive. (14-0 UNCP)
2ND QUARTER
After another NGU three-and-out, UNCP would start on its own eight-yard line and march down the field for a 18-play, 92-yard touchdown drive. Avery Curtis ran for ten yards on fourth down to extend the drive, before Jake Davids put the Braves in the red-zone with an 11-yard run. Ehrlich would find a wide open Aaron Osborne in the end zone for an eight-yard touchdown pass. (21-0 UNCP)

North Greenville's offense showed signs of life on the ensuing possession, going 75 yards in eight plays as Kam Montgomery capped off the drive with a one-yard touchdown run. (21-7 UNCP)

The Trailblazers forced a three-and-out and struck again, this time on a 13-play, 54-yard scoring drive as Montgomery found Everett Joyner for a four-yard touchdown pass. (21-14 UNCP)

NGU would rattle off its third-straight touchdown drive, going 80 yards in just seven plays, highlighted by a 50-yard reception from Jonathan Manley, before Montgomery would eventually end the possession with a 12-yard touchdown to Sam Washam. (21-21)
3RD QUARTER
North Greenville's offense stayed hot to open the second half, taking the first possession 65 yards in six plays, including another big play - this one a 30-yard reception - from Manley. Montgomery connected with Jaiden McDowell for a 16-yard touchdown to cap off the drive. (28-21 NGU)

The Black & Gold answered back with a scoring drive of its own, going 75 yards on 11 plays, as a 22-yard pass to Brown put the Braves in the red-zone. Ehrlich picked up 11 yards on a keeper, while Davids punched it in on the ground from eight-yards out. (28-28)

The Trailblazers answered almost immediately as Montgomery connected with Washam for a 75-yard touchdown on the drive's second play. (35-28 NGU)
4TH QUARTER
UNC Pembroke countered with a 14-play, 56-yard scoring drive, as Barnett logged an 11-yard catch on third down, before Davids extended the drive again with a six-yard run on fourth down, before Ehrlich found the box from two yards out. (35-35)

North Greenville's ensuing possession covered 75 yards on just seven plays, as Montgomery connected with Washam for 13 yards and Darius Bailem for 21 yards, while Montgomery capped the drive with a 23-yard touchdown run. (42-35 NGU)

The Braves wasted no time on a four-play, 70-yard touchdown drive, as Ehrlich found Brown for 23 yards, Davids for 25 yards, and Osborne for 17 yards to put the ball on NGU's five-yard line. Brown took the snap and ran in for the score, but UNCP's game-winning two-point conversion was unsuccessful. (42-41 NGU)
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Josh Ehrlich completed 15 of 24 passing attempts for a game-high 269 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding two touchdowns and a game-high 122 yards on the ground.
+ Jake Davids tallied 76 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries, while also adding four catches for 44 yards.
+ Malik Brown caught four passes for a career-high 134 yards, including a 68-yard touchdown reception.
+ Jadin Baptist tallied a team-high eight tackles and also added a TFL and a PBU.
