Volleyball Downs Belmont Abbey

BELMONT ABBEY – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team registered a season-best 12 total blocks, seven of which came via Alexandria Mills, on the way to a 3-1 victory over Belmont Abbey on Saturday afternoon inside the Wheeler Center. 

The Braves have now won their last three games and improve to 13-6 all-time against Belmont Abbey. UNCP has won the last eight meetings. 

Danika Kunkle logged a double-doubles during Saturday's victory.

SET 1 I 27-25 Belmont Abbey got a strong start to the match taking 17-10 lead. UNC Pembroke cut its deficit back to 22-20, but would then win four of the next five points to lead 24-23. The Braves secured the set winning three of the final five points.  
    - UNCP out-hit BAC .281 to .095 in the set.
    - Addie Decker had five kills in the set. 
    - Alexandria Mills had a solo block. 
SET 2 I 23-25 UNCP took control with an 18-13 lead, but BAC would eventually tie the score at 22 apiece. The Crusaders won three of the final four points to take the set.  
    - BAC out-hit UNCP .217 to .143 in the set. 
    - Alexandria Mills and Caterina Coronelli both had a trio of kills. 
    - Abby Peduzzi had two service aces.  
SET 3 I 25-20 A kill from Abby Peduzzi gave UNC Pembroke a 21-16 lead late in the third set. Belmont Abbey tried to cut into its deficit, but the Braves stayed in control to take a two set lead. 
    - UNCP out-hit BAC .119 to .030 in the set. 
    - Danika Kunkle tallied five kills during the set. 
    - Alexandria Mills had three block assists. 
SET 4 I 25-23 UNC Pembroke took a commanding 15-6 lead to start the fourth set. Belmont Abbey would eventually go on to win five points in a row to tie the score at 21, but the Braves won four of the final six points to close out the match.   
    - UNCP out-hit BAC .205 to .178 in the set.
    -  Danika Kunkle logged five kills during the set. 
    - Abby Peduzzi had a pair of service aces.
