PEMBROKE – No. 24 UNC Pembroke took a 31-15 win over Montevallo in the semifinals, but fell to No. 15 Lander in the Conference Carolinas Wrestling Championship on Sunday at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.

Spencer May, Logan Robinson, Keegan Roberson, Caleb Grau, Logan Hoffman, and Jackson Buck each recorded victories against Montevallo.

The Black & Gold will now turn its attention to the NCAA Super Region II Tournament slated for Sunday, March 1. The event will be hosted by Lander in Greenwood, S.C.

Spencer May won via forfeit at 125 pounds before Logan Robinson followed with a technical fall at 133 pounds to give the Braves a quick 11-0 lead. After Montevallo took wins at 141 and 149 pounds to make it 11-9, Keegan Roberson answered with a technical fall in the 157-pound bout, with Caleb Grau recording a pin at 165 pounds to stretch the lead to 22-9. Logan Hoffman picked up a decision win at 174 pounds, while Montevallo won via decision in the 184-pound bout to make it 25-12. Jackson Buck put the match away with a pin at 197 pounds before Montevallo closed the dual with a decision win at heavyweight.

Lander won all ten bouts, including five bonus-point victories on the way to taking home the Conference Carolinas Wrestling Championship. UNC Pembroke was assessed two one-point unsportsmanlike penalties.
