HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
The first quarter commenced with a series of turnovers, as UNC Pembroke struggled to maintain possession early on. Lees-McRae capitalized on these opportunities, with Nadiya Hairston's layup at 8:58 setting the tone for its offensive efforts. Bre'Asia Washington kept the Braves competitive, scoring two fastbreak layups, including one at 4:29, but the visitors extended their lead with an 11-point run. Kaylee Carson's three-point play at 4:22 widened the gap, and Sydney Gueterman's free throws pushed the lead to 18-6. Shaymiah Bailey's layup in the final seconds trimmed the deficit to 20-10 at the end of the quarter.
2ND QUARTER
Lees-McRae's second-quarter performance was spearheaded by Sydney Gueterman's three-pointer and Kaylee Carson's consistent play in the paint. Carson contributed with multiple layups, helping the Bobcats maintain its scoring momentum. Meanwhile, UNC Pembroke's Bre'Asia Washington responded with two layups. Despite the efforts from UNCP, Lees-McRae held a 35-23 lead as the teams headed into the locker rooms.
3RD QUARTER
In the third quarter, Bre'Asia Washington's layup at 9:13 put UNC Pembroke on the board, narrowing the early deficit, 35-25 against Lees-McRae. Natalie Evington knocked down a three pointer to spark the Braves on a 14-2 run that would cut the deficit back to 45-42 after a pair of free throws from Camille Kerridge with four minutes on the clock. However, LMC answered with an 8-2 surge to close out the period and hold a 53-44 lead heading into the final stanza.
4TH QUARTER
Lees-McRae secured a 75-64 victory over the Braves, closing the fourth quarter with a narrow scoring edge. Kaylee Carson was instrumental in the period, contributing multiple layups, and Camryn Lee added a fastbreak layup with 7:50 remaining to extend their lead. Braelyn Stilwell's consistent free-throw shooting in the final minutes helped maintain the advantage. UNC Pembroke's offense was led by Shaymiah Bailey and Tiana Spann, who combined for several key baskets, but their efforts were not enough to overcome the deficit.
