Baseball Cruises Past Salem In Series Opener

PEMBROKE – UNC Pembroke racked up 14 hits and rode a quality start from Jacob Smith on the way to a 10-1 win over Salem in the series opener Friday at Sammy Cox Field.

Branton Jernigan and Landon Lucas each homered for the Braves, while Smith went six complete and allowed just one unearned run to go along with eight strikeouts.

UNCP pitchers racked up 16 strikeouts on the day.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 2 After Salem jumped ahead 1-0 in the top half of the second, Branton Jernigan tied the game with a solo homer in the bottom half.
BOT 3 Landon Lucas, Peyton Young, and Mason Mozeley all came through with RBIs to give the Braves a 4-1 lead.
BOT 5 Lucas stretched the lead to 5-1 with a solo blast to center field to leadoff the frame.
BOT 6 Lucas struck again an inning later with an RBI double, while Young followed with an RBI single to score Lucas to make it 7-1.
BOT 7 A Tyler Steele sac fly and RBI singles from Daniel Stephens and Hayden Davis would make it 10-1.
