Softball Falls To No. 16 Kutztown

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke softball team jumped out to an early lead, but back-to-back multi-run innings was key in helping No. 16 Kutztown to a 6-4 victory on Friday afternoon at Willoughby Field.

Senior Summer Bullard struck out 11 batters in seven innings of work, while the Braves finished with eight hits including a pair of doubles and a home run from Cirstin Calloway in the bottom of the seventh inning.

BOT 1 Alex Serbio and Emma Wrenn each reached with a single and would advance a base with a sacrifice bunt from Alona Hanna. Kaitynn Hunt smacked a double into the left center field gap to score both runners to give UNCP an early 2-0 lead. 
TOP 2 Kutztown put runners on the corners following a leadoff walk from Ashley Schulz and a single to the outfield grass from Samantha Paetow. Morgan Kocher beat out a bunt to plate Schulz, followed by an RBI single to right field from Emily Henn. With the bases loaded, Parker Kraus brought home a run with a sacrifice fly to give the Bears a 3-2 lead.
