Softball Breezes By Felician

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke softball team registered 12 hits and had four extra base hits on the way to a 7-3 victory over Felician on Sunday afternoon at Willoughby Field.

Newcomer Halona Sampson fanned five batters in five innings of work, with Maddie Gerovac, Alona Hanna and Kaitlynn Hunt each finished with an extra base hit.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 1 UNC Pembroke put runners on first and second after a single from Cirstin Calloway and a double from Alona Hanna. Kaitlynn Hunt brought home the first run with an RBI single to center field, followed by a sacrifice fly from Chloe Locklear to give UNCP a 2-0 lead. 
TOP 5 Hannah Ramirez got the inning started with a leadoff double down the left field line, but Kimberly Torres lit up the scoreboard with a two-run homer over the right field fence to knot the score at 3-3.
BOT 5 Cirsin Calloway started the inning with a leadoff single, advanced to second on a passed ball and would score on a double from Kaitlynn Hunt. Maddie Gerovac smacked a triple to the outfield gap to score Hunt, followed by an RBI single to left field from Summer Bullard. Bullard moved to second on a passed ball, but a single to right field from Maggie Cunningham capped off the four run inning as Bullard scored to put the Braves ahead 7-3.

The Braves will return to action on Wednesday when they host Elizabeth City State for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch of the twinbill is set for 2 p.m. at Willoughby Softball Field and admission is free.
