Baseball Falls To Coker In Extra Innings

PEMBROKE – No. 23 UNC Pembroke rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game, but Coker scored twice in the 11th inning and held on for a 10-8 win over the Braves in non-conference action Tuesday evening at Sammy Cox Field.

Hayden Davis, Branton Jernigan, and Peyton Young each had three hits for the Braves, while Jernigan and Mason Mozeley added home runs.

The Braves (16-5) dropped to 35-14 all-time against the Cobras (6-16), as well as having its nine-game home winning streak against Coker stopped.

The Black & Gold will be back in action Friday as they host Chowan for a Conference Carolinas series. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.

KEY INNINGS
TOP 2 Coker got on the board first on a Dimitri Sabino RBI double and a Gavin Edens sac fly to go up 2-0.
BOT 2 The Braves answered back as Morgan Padgett laced a two-run double to tie the score, while Tyler Steele's RBI groundout gave the Braves a 3-2 lead.
BOT 3 Mason Mozeley's solo blast made it 4-2, while Branton Jernigan followed with a solo homer of his own two batters later to stretch the lead to 5-2.
TOP 7 The Cobras used two hits, two walks, a hit by pitch, and two sac flies to score four runs and take a 7-6 lead.
BOT 9 After a Coker run in the top half made it 8-6, the Braves got a sac fly from Landon Lucas and a game-tying RBI double from Peyton Young to tie the game at 8-8.
TOP 11 Matthew Lipcsey's RBI single gave Coker the lead, while Lipcsey would later come home on a wild pitch to make it 10-8.
