Baseball Falls At No. 3 Catawba

SALISBURY– No. 23 UNC Pembroke took a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth inning, but No. 3 Catawba scored 11 of the last 13 runs as the Braves fell 14-6 in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at Newman Park.

Landon Lucas paced the offense, going 2-4 with two solo home runs, while Peyton Young was 2-3 with a home run and two RBI.

The Braves (19-6) dropped to 33-33 all-time against the Indians (21-4), and have now lost four straight in the series.

The Black & Gold will be back in action Friday as they host No. 15 Young Harris for a Conference Carolinas series. First pitch Friday is set for 5 p.m.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 3 Catawba struck first as Logan Dyer singled and came home on a two-run homer from Brandon Crabtree.
TOP 4 The Braves got on the board with a one-out solo shot from Landon Lucas, before Branton Jernigan walked, stole second, and came home on Peyton Young's two-run homer to tie the game at 3-3. Morgan Padgett followed with a double, while Ashton Donathan brought home Padgett with an RBI single to give UNCP a 4-3 lead.
BOT 4 Catawba answered back and took the lead for good on a Dyer RBI single, Crabtree RBI walk, and a Sam Hunter sac fly to make it 6-4.
