Wingate Sweeps Softball

WINGATE - The UNC Pembroke softball registered 17 hits across two games, but timely hitting for Wingate and costly errors by UNCP helped the Bulldogs to a non-conference sweep on Sunday afternoon at the Wingate Softball Complex. 
 
The Braves got on the board first in the opening game, but a six run fourth inning helped the Bulldogs to an 8-2 victory to start the day. The Black & Gold took a 3-2 lead late with a solo homer from Chloe Locklear in the top of the sixth, but Wingate answered in the bottom of the seventh inning with three hits to complete the sweep 4-3.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 4 Wingate put runners on first and second to start the inning, but a single from Carrie Ellen Bryan scored a runner followed by an RBI single from Kaylee Hobgood. The Bulldogs loaded the bases with an infield single from Damyia McFadden, but Kendra Murray knocked a single through the left side to bring in a pair of runners. Lily Huneycutt and Riley Griffin both singled to bring in a pair of runners to cap off the six run inning. 
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
TOP 6 Chloe Locklear got the inning started with a leadoff homer over the center field fence to knot the game at 3. 
TOP 7 Kaylee Hobgood started the inning with a single through the left side followed by a bunt single from Damyia McFadden. A throwing error by the Braves loaded the bases, but an infield single from Lily Huneycutt scored Hobgood for the winning run.
