Offensive Explodes For Softball At Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. - The UNC Pembroke softball recorded 30 hits across two games highlighted by five home runs on the day to fuel a sweep over Ferrum on Tuesday afternoon at the Vickie Van Kleeck Softball Complex. 

Summer Bullard, Kaitlynn Hunt and Alona Hanna each logged a home run, while Chloe Locklear finished the day with a pair of homers. 
 
The Braves started the day with 11 hits in the opening game and tacked on three runs in the third inning to defeat the Panthers 6-3. UNCP completed the sweep with nine runs in the third inning and a seven run sixth inning with a 20-8 victory in six innings.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
TOP 5 Maggie Cunningham singled through the left side, stole second and scored on a single to left field from Alex Serbio. Emma Wrenn and Kaitlynn Hunt both singled to the outfield to put runners on the corners, but a single up the middle from Chloe Locklear scored both runners to give the Braves a 5-0 lead. 
BOT 5 Kayla Rudd drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a groundout and would score on a single from Samantha Smith. Riley Young smacked an RBI double to right field, followed by an RBI single to the outfield from Carly Constantino to cut the score to 5-3. 
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
TOP 3 The Braves put runners on the corners after a leadoff walk from Chloe Locklear and Maddie Gerovac reached on a fielder's choice.  A single up the middle from Maggie Cunningham scored both runners, followed by a double from Alona Hanna that scored Cunningham. UNCP would score nine runs on six hits in the inning, including a two-run homer from Chloe Locklear and a solo homer from Summer Bullard to take a 12-3 lead.

UP NEXT
The Braves will take a week off before returning to action on April 7 when they trek to Murfreesboro to battle with Chowan. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. at the Chowan Softball Field.
