Chowan Sweeps Softball

MURFREESBORO - Chowan limited the UNC Pembroke softball team to just nine hits across two games as the Hawks swept the Braves in Conference Carolinas action on Tuesday afternoon at the Chowan Softball Field. 

UNCP struggled offensively to start the day and didn't record a hit until the fifth inning, while a two-run fifth inning for CU helped the hosts to a 3-0 victory. The Braves got a spark early from Zoe Godard and Kaitlyn King with back-to-back homers, but a trio of errors from UNC Pembroke and four consecutive innings with the Hawks logging runs helped Chowan to a sweep with a 6-2 victory.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 5 Hydee Kugler got the inning started with a single up the middle and would advance to second on a sacrifice bunt from Ava Mizell. Kugler reached third on a wild pitch and scored on a fielder's choice from Kyra Helton. An RBI single up the middle from Kaitlyn Springle put Chowan ahead 3-0. 
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
TOP 3 Zoe Godard got the inning started with a leadoff homer over the center field fence, followed by a home run from Kaitlyn King to give UNCP a 2-0 lead. 
BOT 6 Hydee Kugler singled to right field and advanced to third on a double from Ava Mizell. A sacrifice bunt from Bailey Weston scored Kugler, followed by an RBI single to the outfield gap from Kyra Helton to give the Hawks a 6-2 lead.
