Softball Splits Doubleheader With No. 6 Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. – The UNC Pembroke softball team split the Conference Carolinas opener with No. 6 Francis Marion on Tuesday evening at the FMU Softball Stadium.

The Braves registered 11 hits in the opening game including a three-run homer from Chloe Locklear in the third inning and a complete game performance in the circle from Summer Bullard to defeat the Patriots 5-4. However, FMU responded in the second game with 11 hits and limited UNCP to just a pair of hits on the way to an 8-0 victory in six innings.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
TOP 3 Cirstin Calloway drew a walk and Alona Hanna reached on a fielder's choice, but Chloe Locklear lit up the scoreboard with a three-run blast over the center field fence. 
BOT 6 Francis Marion loaded the bases with a pair of singles and a walk. Rylie Wesbter beat out an infield single to bring in a run, followed by a fielder's choice from Jenna Walling to plate another runner to knot the score at 4-4.
TOP 7 The Braves put runners on the corners with a single from Alona Hanna and Chloe Locklear reaching on a fielder's choice. Maddie Gerovac knocked a single to right field to score Hanna.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 2 Francis Marion loaded the bases with singles from Rylee Gray, Paige Strickland and Mikaela Gross. Anderson Thrower and McKenzie Jewell each drew a walk to bring home a pair of runners, followed by an RBI single up the middle from Jenna Walling to put the Patriots ahead 4-0.
