Baseball Takes Midweek Win Over Bridgeport

PEMBROKE – UNC Pembroke racked up 11 hits and drew 12 walks on the way to an 18-8 run-rule shortened win over Bridgeport on Wednesday at Sammy Cox Field.

Seven Braves recorded at least one hit and one walk, while also striking for six extra-base hits in the win.

Landon Lucas and Peyton Young each homered for the Black & Gold, while Jay Leonard earned the win after going a predetermined three innings.

The Braves (14-3) picked up the win in the first-ever meeting against the Purple Knights (4-5). 

The Black & Gold will be back in action Friday as they head to Belmont Abbey for a Conference Carolinas series with the Crusaders. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 1 After Bridgeport struck first in the top half, the Braves tied the score at 1-1 on a Landon Lucas RBI double.
BOT 2 Morgan Padgett worked a lead-off walk and would come home on a Hayden Davis sac fly to give the Braves the lead, while Mason Mozeley followed with a two-run double to make it 4-1.
BOT 3 Logan Blight picked up his first collegiate hit with a two-RBI single to make it 6-1, while Davis followed with an RBI single to stretch the lead to 7-1.
BOT 4 Lucas was hit by a pitch and trotted home on Peyton Young's two-run blast to make it 9-3.
BOT 6 After Bridgeport trimmed the deficit to 9-6, Lucas led off the home half of the frame with an opposite-field homer, while Zane Brockman later added another run with an RBI ground out to make it 11-6.
BOT 7 The Braves used two hits, seven walks, and three Bridgeport errors to plate seven runs in the inning, ending the game via mercy rule on Mozeley's RBI walk.
