Lenoir-Rhyne Takes Two From Softball

HICKORY - Lenoir-Rhyne extended its win streak out to 12 games after a sweep over the UNC Pembroke softball team on Monday afternoon at McCrorie Family Stadium.
 
The Braves took a late 3-2 lead with a three-run fifth inning, but the Bears capitalized on timely hitting and a single from Kaylan Brown to score the winning run and defeat UNCP 4-3. LR recorded home runs in the first and second innings to make a statement early and would complete the sweep with a 5-1 victory in the back half of the doubleheader.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 1 Autumn Joyce started the inning with a leadoff triple and would score on a single to left field from Madison Primm. A single to the outfield gap from Alexandria Gray scored Primm to give the Bears a 2-0 lead. 
TOP 5 Emma Wrenn got the inning started with a single followed by an infield single from Maggie Cunningham. Alex Serbio knocked a single thorough the middle to score Wrenn, but a double from Kaitlynn Hunt cleared the bases to give UNCP a 3-2 lead. 
BOT 7 The Bears put runners on first and second after a walk from Avery Kiger and a single to left field from Lani Warren. Kaylan Brown smacked a single into right field to score the winning run.  
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 1 Autumn Joyce singled through the left side, but Lani Warren sent one out of the park for a two-run homer. 
BOT 2 Erin Lookabill drew a walk followed by a single through the left side from Camden Gerland. Autumn Joyce lit up the scoreboard with a three-run homer over the left center field fence.

The Braves will jump back into conference action on Saturday when they travel to Wilson to face Barton. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m. at Jeffries Field.
