Baseball Drops Series Opener To No. 4 North Greenville

PEMBROKE – UNC Pembroke racked up 13 hits, including four home runs, but couldn't climb back in front on the way to a 12-8 loss to No. 4 North Greenville in the series opener Friday evening at Sammy Cox Field.

Landon Lucas homered twice for the Braves, while Daniel Stephens and Branton Jernigan each added one apiece. 

The Braves (26-12, 16-9 CC) fell to 3-14 all-time against the Trailblazers (34-7, 21-4 CC). 

The Black & Gold will wrap up the series Saturday with a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. All UNC Pembroke baseball alumni in attendance will be recognized on the field in between games of the doubleheader.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 1 The Braves struck first as Mason Mozeley's single to center coupled with a North Greenville error allowed Hayden Davis to score from first to stake UNCP to a 1-0 lead.
TOP 3 North Greenville answered with a Connor McKee solo homer, a CJ Dean RBI single, and a Josh Foulks sac fly, before Dean came home on a wild pitch to make it 4-1.
TOP 4 After a Daniel Stephens solo homer in the bottom of the third, NGU extended the lead on McKee's second homer of the night, while Dean drove in another with an RBI single to make it 7-2.
BOT 8 The Braves got as close as 9-6 on Ashton Donathan's two-RBI single, but the Trailblazers would tack on three more in the top of the ninth to put the game away.
